Back in 2012 the gubmint made it illegal for Canadians to have pennies, just like the Aztecs tried to warn us about with their abrupt calendar termination. In commemoration of the 13th anniversary of this momentous event the Royal City Mint produced a pile of decorative and / or collectible facsimiles and made them available outside one of the local watering holes. These aren’t legal tender, though, so don’t try and spend them in any of the New Westminster businesses.
